Hi Im originally from Belgium, graduated in june and decided to follow my dreams on the way to the other side of the world for a new winter in land of the long white cloud; New Zealand (where Nikita is so hard to find, that I got Sophie, a friend from back home to send me some of the new collection hehe). One thing is for sure.. a snowboarding day here is a whole new experience!
I live in Methven, this is the really relaxed but windy town by Mt Hutt. But this story isn’t about Mt Hutt, on one of our days off we decided to do a roadtrip to Ohau, it became my best day of the season. The alarm rings at 6 and as I open the curtain I see this amazing orange sky, pink mountains are waiting for a great day. Pack everything in the van and we hit the road for about 2,5 hours driving, passing about 10 other cars during the whole journey, expecting to see Frodo walk from behind a tree in this land of Mordor. U will experience the biggest difference between New Zealand resorts and European even before u get there.. the road! These roads wouldn’t, for safety reasons, be allowed in Europe. U drive up this one lane gravel road, hoping that no one will come down, theres no such thing as a fence, just make sure u keep both hands on the wheel, cause u only have about 70cm of freedom before u would fall off the side of the road, I’ll just let the photo speak for it…
This resort is as big as one big chairlift allowing u to snowboard the whole side of the mountain, if you’re alright with a bit of hiking. So that’s what we did, hiked to the top, to see all those mountains with untouched snow, not a single road or house, nothing there… that view is breathtaking!!
On the other side is Lake Ohau. We have amazing powderruns down to the slopes, where we jib around. Over and over again, until our legs cant carry us anymore. So we decide to help some friends with their first snowboard experience.. When finally we are all satisfied and mist is coming in we drive down to the lake again.. The hungry feeling is slowly coming back so we decide to hit the road to our final destination for the day; Lake Tekapo.

Before we switch our lights off, we make our way to the hot spas by the lake, for a relaxing session with view on the lake and mountains. Let those muscles get their chillout. Finishing with a fingerlicking pastabowl at Pepe’s.. that was just a perfect day..
To make it all even better, I woke up the next morning with a view on the lake, drinking my hot chocolat (Im still Belgian and need chocolate) on the patio.. enjoying the sound of the rain… but no worries.. that means new snow on the mountains!!
