This story starts out as any normal day would. I slammed on the snooze button, rolled out of bed 10 minutes late, threw on a shirt that I probably pulled off the top of my dirty laundry pile, and headed out the door for another day at school. As I drove up the hill I mumbled to my friend, “Were gunna have a snow day today, I can feel it.”
She laughed because I’ve said that everyday since the local weather station mentioned the word precipitation. As I
sat in my physics class, a voice come on the loudspeaker saying something about a huge snowstorm blah blah blah…after the word snowstorm was mentioned I had already zipped up my coat, put on my hat, and I was out the door with my two best friends, Deleah and Thalia. We had most-likely planned on skipping out early to go to the local mountain because all our boards and boots were conveniently packed into the back-seat of Thal’s Volvo. To our disappointment we arrived to an empty parking lot at Butternut, only to find they had closed on account of the snowstorm (strange huh?). We knew that meant ungroomed trails and untouched mounds of powder, so we sucked it up, hiked up the mountain (pretending it was Everest) and shredded the most unbelievable pillows I’ve ever seen on the East Coast, although I was pretty sure I was in Heaven.

As we packed like frozen sardines back into the car, Thalia mentioned how the roads were probably unplowed. Although I realize it was not the smartest thing to do, but how could three 17 year old girls pass up the opportunity to shred down Route 7?

We tied some fishing rope I found in my garage to the back off the car and took turns towing/ripping down the street in the most beautiful snow I’ve ever seen with Here Comes the Hotstepper blasting out of the speakers. As I sat in the trunk of the Volvo snapping shots of the two loves of my life shredding some serious gnar I realized this was it!

It was nothing fancy, it was no road trip full of apple pie and super fun terrain, but it was perfect. Good tunes, amazing snow, and my two hometown heroes shredding down the highway… as I’m not good with words, it’s best to let the pictures do the talking.
